Intro to Stochastic Modelling (Grad level)

Whitt, Ward
Intro to Stochastic Modelling (Grad level)

Please keep in mind that this review is more than 5 years old.

Admittedly, taking this as an undergrad I found the material a bit taxing. Although the first midterm was easy since it was basically a review of ProbStats. Ward likes to make jokes in class and use students in his word problems, especially on tests. This, however, did not stop me from falling asleep in class almost everyday. He does regrading for tests if you have an issue. But you have to be right and not just be a complaining bitch about it.

Workload:

Homework is "optional" if you do well on the tests they do not affect your grade. Solutions are posted as well as old midterms/finals. He recycles a lot of problems so it shouldn't be a tough class if you study the tests that go back a few years. Being as I got a B+ and was unconscious for most class sessions I went to, I'd say that's the best strategy. Opportunity for extra credit exists (project), but in my opinion is more work than it's worth.
