Mercer, Christia Silver_nugget
[PHIL V2110] Philosophy and Feminism

Please keep in mind that this review is more than 5 years old.

Philosophy and Feminism changed my life. You might think this is an exaggeration, but no! Quite the contrary. As Professor Mercer said, this course will give you the tools you need to shape and better understand the world you live. And, better yet, change it! I decided to become a Philosophy Major because of this class, and it was the best decision I've EVER made.
Not only are the readings and discussions interesting and relevant to the subject matter, but also Professor Mercer does an incredible job at explaining them and putting them into perspective/contrasting them with other issues.
If you haven't taken a philosophy (or gender studies) course, this is a must! If you have...this is a must too! Just do it.
Last, but not least, Professor Mercer teaches the course with enthusiasm, tries to get to know each one of her students and strikes the perfect balance between class discussion and lecturing. It's a pleasure to be in this class.
At least, sit on the class the first week just to see how you feel about it.

Workload:

The workload is reasonable, and readings very well selected. Additionally, Professor Mercer will be conscious that some period of times in the semester will be more difficult and will adjust accordingly.
Two papers, and two exams (at least last time she taught it).
The grading is very fair, and as long as you keep up; you'll be fine.
I actually enjoy taking the Final. You will too.
