If you can take a class with Jon before you graduate, DO IT!! First, he's actually brilliant. He talks about the readings in a way that will make you think about them in a totally new light, and while he does it, he quotes from memory many different poets and philosophers. Not only is he really smart, but he is also genuinely kind and cares about every student. He makes sure to ask about each of us, embraces everyone's work, and makes the class environment very open and non-judgemental. This isn't your typical Columbia class-- Jon isn't here to give bad grades or make you pull all-nighters. His goal is to help us see our lives and the world more clearly. Daily Life was by far one of my favorite classes at Columbia, and I know I'll remember our readings and discussions for years to come.
