professor
Joseph Cesario

This professor has earned a CULPA gold nugget

I agree that Cesario is a nice, down to earth guy, always willing to help, blah, blah, blah. But he gives way too much time for people to ask dumb and hypothetical questions in class, and was not structured - halfway through the course he decided he wanted to stop using the textbook and he just asked us to print out random textbook chapters from courseworks. The text is expensive, and we only read 5 chapters or so from it. He does come to class prepared but a great deal of his lectures are simply details of experiments that can get boring and tedious. Tests are easy. Lab with Good is HORRIBLE.

Joe is an awesome professor. He has just started teaching and is very eager to share his enthusiasm for the subject. He was very proud of his tests, proudly annoucing before each one, "I think this is a good test." He was also very happy with how the class performed on these exams (the class average on the fist two was somewhere around a 93). The subject matter wasn't all that interesting-basically a rehashing of major themes from Intro while going in depth into a few major personality theories. However, Joe made it more interesting with his often humorous & cheesy PowerPoint presentations and lectures. Many of the things he said would elicit an "awwwwwww" from the entire class. This is a great class, especially for those doing Psych as a lab science. However, beware the lab section with Good.

Joe is the coolest, funniest, best professor out there. He is sweet and charming (and very understanding and considerate), but most importantly, he is so enthusiastic and wants every one of his students to learn everything he possibly knows on the subject. He was always concerned that he was doing a good job, and would consistently ask the class's opinion on the job he was doing. He would always come to class prepared with powerpoint presentations, making note-taking easy. He even once brought in a video of him conditioning his cat- he is such a cool and sweet guy. He is the reason why I am a psych major. I really can't stress how great a guy and professor Joe is. I learned a lot in the class, and I enjoyed doing the readings and studying for the exams. Also, he is very easy to reach and very available to discuss any concerns or questions, via email or in his office. Take any class you can with him! As of now, he is still in the process of getting his PhD, but I am sure he will be teaching more courses in the future. Only take the lecture part of the course with Joe, if you can..the lab section (taught by Catherine Good) is boring and teaches nothing...a waste of time.

This guy is amazing! He is by far the best professor I have ever had at Barnard/Columbia. He organizes and presents the material in such an incredibly interesting and understandable way. After three years of attempting to skip as many psych classes as possible and cramming at the last minute for the test (which is usually very possible) I went to every class this guy gave. And I barely I had to study for the tests since I knew the material so well already from listening to his lectures. Take this class if you can -it really is one of the best.
