Joseph Pearson

May 2006

Don't be daunted by Professor Pearson's exhaustive introductions about himself, or rapidly adapting accent to foreign languages. He is very approachable and tries to stimulate class discussion. However, on his own principle, he is a harsh grader on papers and is very demanding of students in class. Don't expect to BS your way through a class discussion; he'll see right through you. Two 5-6 page papers and one 7-9 page paper, no midterm exam. He insists that curves the final grade, but I did not notice it. Go to office hours, and take him up on his comments! He may raise your merciless grade on your essay by a third or two! He also integrates some enjoyable informal teaching methods into his seminar.
